UiTM Strengthens University Collaboration and Student Entrepreneurship Through Idea Exchange: Northern Journey 2025

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) continues to strengthen its network of collaboration between higher education institutions while empowering student entrepreneurial potential through the active participation of its Meranti College Representative Committee (JPK) in the Idea Exchange: Northern Journey 2025 program. This national-scale initiative took place from October 17 to 19, 2025, focusing on volunteer activities, social entrepreneurship, and student character development.

Strategic Partnership Drives Educational Innovation

The program received full support from UiTM’s Student Affairs Department (JHEP) and was officially launched by Meranti College Principal, Dr. Firdaus Mohamad. Meanwhile, its successful implementation was made possible through collaboration with the Penyayang Club of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), led by Associate Professor EUR ING Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Natashah bin Norizan and Program Advisor, Puan Intan Syazlina bt Mohd Ali.

The strategic partnership demonstrates how university collaboration in Malaysia can create meaningful learning experiences that extend far beyond traditional classroom settings.

Real-World Impact at Rumah Kanak-Kanak Arau

One of the main activity locations was Rumah Kanak-Kanak Arau (RKKA), Perlis, a protective institution under the Court. Here, students conducted Interactive Learning activities with RKKA children and implemented the Surau Beautification Project, which aimed to enhance the prayer space through community spirit and cooperation.

These hands-on activities provided students with invaluable experience in social responsibility while making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children. As a result, participants gained deeper insights into community needs and developed practical skills in project management and social intervention.

Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Through Social Awareness

According to Dr. Firdaus Mohamad, this program serves as more than just a volunteer initiative—it’s a platform for developing students with leadership qualities and high social awareness. “Programs like this instill values of empathy, social responsibility, and entrepreneurial spirit among students. It aligns with the aspirations of the Ministry of Higher Education and the vision of Malaysia MADANI,” he stated.

Four Universities Unite for Student Innovation

The program showcased strategic collaboration between four major universities—UiTM, USM, UniMAP, and UUM—through the Student Dialogue Session that focused on sharing ideas, innovation, and best practices in student entrepreneurship. For example, the discussions revealed that today’s students possess high levels of creativity and digital skills necessary to implement projects that impact both community and national economy.

This multi-institutional approach mirrors successful international university collaboration models that have proven effective in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students worldwide.

Overall, Idea Exchange: Northern Journey 2025 serves as a manifestation of students’ role as agents of social change and pioneers of the future economy.
