HCMUTE Students Gain Study Abroad Opportunities in Taiwan Through NFU Partnership

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education welcomed a delegation from National Formosa University on September 16, 2025, to introduce scholarship programs and study abroad opportunities for Vietnamese students. The meeting at HCMUTE’s Meeting Room 3 featured presentations on full tuition waivers and monthly living allowances ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 NTD for qualifying students.

Key Details

The NFU delegation included Prof. Ian Yang, Vice President, and Prof. Jo-Yu Wang, Head of the International Relations Office, who presented scholarship information to HCMUTE leadership. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chau Dinh Thanh, HCMUTE Vice President, attended alongside leaders from multiple faculties including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Economics, Foreign Languages, Applied Sciences, and International Education.

NFU offers several specialized programs for international students:

  • INTENSE Program: Master’s program in Smart Automation with company internships, first-year tuition waiver, and 10,000 NTD monthly stipend
  • Formosa Talent Internship Program: Short-term internships in research centers and laboratories
  • TEEP-Formosa TIP: Combined study, research, internship and cultural exchange program
  • Language requirements: IELTS 5.0 or TOEIC 550 minimum scores
  • Post-graduation work opportunities in Taiwan for at least two years

NFU currently enrolls over 12,000 students across 18 master’s programs and 3 doctoral programs, with particular strength in engineering, technology, mechanical engineering, electronics, and aeronautics.

Background & Context

The scholarship workshop represents part of expanding international education partnerships between Vietnamese and Taiwanese institutions. Both universities discussed collaboration in training, scientific research, student and faculty exchanges, and joint research projects, particularly in drone applications for emergency rescue operations during disasters and missing person searches.

The partnership aims to address growing demand for globally competitive graduates in science and technology fields, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs educational initiatives.

What’s Next

Three major collaborative activities will launch in the coming months. NFU will send one professor to HCMUTE in October 2025 to deliver specialized seminars on semiconductor technology and automation while supporting HCMUTE’s Journal of Technical Education development.

Industry collaboration will connect HCMUTE students with TSMC for certificate courses and semiconductor training program development. The universities will also implement a 1+1 Master’s Program in Business and Finance, offering bilateral study and research opportunities.

The partnership positions NFU as a strategic ally for HCMUTE in training globally competitive graduates to meet integration and sustainable development demands, according to university officials.
