The Pangasinan State University welcomed the delegates of Sulu State College (SSC) for a benchmarking activity dubbed ‘Meeting of Minds’ held at the Golden Lion Hotel on September 9, 2025. This collaborative session exemplified how academic institutions can strengthen their pursuit of educational excellence through knowledge sharing.

Showcasing PSU’s Excellence Journey

The activity showcased PSU’s best practices in the attainment of Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Level III. As a result, participants gained valuable insights into proven quality assurance methodologies that have driven institutional success.

PSU President, Dr. Elbert M. Galas, personally shared a comprehensive walkthrough of the university’s quest on PQA and reprised the challenges encountered by PSU in 2020 and 2021. Meanwhile, this firsthand account provided authentic perspectives on navigating complex accreditation processes.

“We view this activity as an opportunity for partnership and collaboration. As an awardee [of PQA] we are happy to provide support such as sharing of practices and even mentorship because as academic institutions, we are committed for one goal which is quality education,” President Galas shared.

Expert-Led Knowledge Transfer Sessions

Vice President for Quality Assurance Dr. Celeste T. Mercado and the Director for Local Accreditation, Dr. William V. Cayetano, led the presentation of the mechanisms in the PQA journey. For example, these detailed presentations covered essential frameworks and implementation strategies that have proven effective in achieving institutional quality standards.

Furthermore, the Director for Public Relations and Information Office, Ms. Venus May H. Sarmiento, facilitated the open forum session, ensuring dynamic interaction between both institutions.

SSC’s Gratitude and Commitment

The SSC delegation was headed by the Director for QA Dr. Jermalyn Amil who thanked PSU for accommodating their request. Her appreciation highlighted the collaborative spirit essential for advancing educational quality assurance practices across Philippine universities.

“As we wait for the site visit of our assessors, we are grateful for your generous inputs. We became inspired para magpursige to improve our processes as we venture into PQA,” Director Amil said.
