You step into the sleek lecture theatre at Universiti Teknologi Brunei, where the hum of anticipation fills the air as educators, tech innovators, and students from two continents gather for something unprecedented. The Super Museum AI Summit is about to bridge worlds—literally and virtually—as Brunei and the United States prepare to explore artificial intelligence’s transformative power together. What unfolds over the next few hours will reshape how we think about museums, education, and international collaboration in the digital age.
Super Museum AI Summit Showcases Innovation and Collaboration Between Brunei and United States
Catalyst
The Super Museum AI Summit emerged from an ambitious vision to unite minds across continents. This collaborative event, hosted by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) together with the United States Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, George Mason University (GMU), and Company | E, represented something entirely new. The Summit featured keynote addresses, interactive learning sessions, and hands-on demonstrations by experts from the United States and Brunei, held across the lecture theatres at UTB.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony at Lecture Theatre 2 brought together dignitaries who understood the significance of this moment. Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Haji Hairul Md Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications), representing Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pg Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC).
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, grounding the technological endeavor in cultural tradition. This was followed by remarks from Her Excellency Madam Caryn R. McClelland, the Ambassador of United States Embassy in Brunei Darussalam. Subsequent remarks were delivered by Yang Mulia Dr Mohamad Saiful bin Haji Omar, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (External and Industry Relations), UTB, and Yang Mulia Mr Paul Emerson, Executive and Co-Artistic Director of Company | E.
Rising Action
As the day progressed, the summit’s ambitious scope became clear through a series of transformative presentations. The first keynote session, entitled AI for Everyone: Possibilities and Pathways, was delivered by Yang Mulia Associate Professor Dr Lim Tiong Hoo, Director of Centre for Green Technology and Sustainability Research (GreenTeXS). The second keynote, Breaking Tech Barriers to Innovation, was delivered by Yang Mulia Tim Cotten, the Chief Executive Officer of Scrypyed Inc.
However, the real breakthrough came with the formalization of international partnerships. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on educational collaboration and research partnerships was signed between UTB and George Mason University. Signing on behalf of UTB was Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, and representing George Mason University was Yang Mulia Professor Sang Nam, Professor and Director, Computer Game Design Programme, Co-Director, Virginia Serious Game Institute. The signing was witnessed by both Her Excellency Madam Caryn R. McClelland and Yang Mulia Haji Hairul Md Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim.
This single document would reshape educational possibilities for students across two continents.
Turning Point
The event continued throughout the day with increasingly sophisticated explorations of artificial intelligence applications. The first session focused on Understanding Artificial Intelligence, featuring a lecture on Beyond Knowing: Rethinking Intelligence in the Age of AI by Yang Mulia Professor Sang Nam. This was followed by a demonstration on Demystifying AI: A Hands-On Introduction to the Minds Behind the Machines by Yang Mulia Professor James Casey.
Subsequently, Session two on AI in Everyday Life comprised three concurrent tracks that demonstrated the technology’s versatility. Track A: AI in Education by Professor James Casey, exploring how AI is used in classrooms and personalized learning platforms. Track B: AI in Business and Startups by Ms. Tara Ashley Compton, sharing real-world examples of AI in operations, customer service, and analytics; and Track C: Building Decentralized AI Agents in the Era of Web4 by Tim Cotton, covering generative AI for storytelling, design, music, and digital arts.
The third session featured a Fireside Chat between Professor Sang Nam and Tim Cotten on Your Future with AI: Building a Career Beyond the Code, discussing AI’s impact, risks, and opportunities from multi-sector perspectives, including education, business, government, and youth. The session explored non-technical roles, essential skills, and accessible learning pathways in the AI era.
This was followed by an Expert Panel on the Future of AI in Southeast Asia, moderated by Professor James Casey, featuring Tim Cotten, representatives from UTB, and the U.S. Embassy, which provided crucial insights into regional AI development strategies.
Resolution
The summit’s vision materialized most dramatically in the student showcase at UTB Library. A highlight of student projects from UTB’s Game Development course were displayed, demonstrating the practical application of everything discussed throughout the day. The exhibition included a VR experience of SuperMuseum America, reimagining the museum visit entirely.
Participants explored a digital museum space with interactive portals transporting them to striking environments such as the surface of Mars, the vast savannah, and the White House, including the Oval Office. Designed to blend education, storytelling, and exploration, SuperMuseum invited users to engage with culture, history, and science in a completely new, interactive way.
The opening ceremony concluded with a presentation of token of appreciation from Professor Sang Nam to the Guest of Honour, symbolizing the successful launch of this unprecedented collaboration.
As participants departed from this groundbreaking summit, they carried with them more than just knowledge about artificial intelligence—they possessed a blueprint for international cooperation in the digital age. The partnerships forged and innovations showcased at UTB demonstrate that the future of education transcends borders, combining cutting-edge technology with cultural understanding. For institutions worldwide seeking to harness AI’s educational potential while maintaining ethical frameworks, the Super Museum AI Summit offers a compelling model of what’s possible when nations collaborate on tomorrow’s learning experiences.
