You could feel the anticipation crackling through Bulwagang Balagtas as hundreds of innovators, educators, and students gathered for what would become a defining moment in Philippine digital education. Over three transformative days in October, we witnessed the rebirth of a festival that promised to reshape how we think about technology, collaboration, and the future of Filipino innovation. The PUP Technology Festival 2025 wasn’t just an event—it was a movement toward “Digital Bayanihan.”
TechFest 2025 Relaunched: Envisioning a Smart Future Together
From October 14–16, 2025, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines successfully orchestrated the PUP Technology Festival 2025 with the theme “PUP Digital Bayanihan: Fostering a Smart Future Together.” The comprehensive three-day event unfolded across multiple venues including Bulwagang Balagtas, NALLRC, and ICTO Computer Laboratory, bringing together a diverse community of innovators, educators, students, and industry partners. This collaborative effort strengthened digital transformation, innovation, and technology education throughout the university ecosystem.
Catalyst
The festival ignited with inspiring messages from distinguished university leaders and national figures, creating an atmosphere of possibility and purpose. PUP President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi and Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, set the stage for transformation. Subsequently, Director Sally C. Mua officially launched the PUP Technology Festival 2025 Overview, emphasizing the university’s unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration between the academe and the ICT industry.
“In today’s world, being an Iskolar ng Bayan means more than just earning a degree. It means becoming a builder of the nation’s digital future.”
These powerful words from Secretary Henry R. Aguda of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) resonated throughout the keynote address. His message emphasized the critical importance of Digital Bayanihan in empowering Filipinos through technology and shaping the Iskolar ng Bayan in Technology, transforming students from knowledge recipients to digital nation builders.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony came alive with cultural performances by Harana String Company, Bagong Himig Serenata, and the Maharlika Dance Artists. The formal Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, led by Secretary Aguda at the NALLRC Lobby exhibits, marked the official beginning of this technological journey. Various partner companies showcased cutting-edge technologies, providing attendees with interactive demonstrations and invaluable networking opportunities.
Rising Action
Cybersecurity and Hackathon Foundations
The first wave of challenges emerged through intensive lecture sessions focused on cybersecurity fundamentals. Experts Reinz Domingo and Rex De Vera led comprehensive discussions on data protection, network defense, and information security management. These sessions equipped participants with essential knowledge for navigating today’s complex digital landscape.
Following these foundational lectures, students faced their first major test through orientation for the PUP Hackathon Competition. This interactive challenge pushed participants beyond their comfort zones, demanding innovative digital solutions for real-world issues. The afternoon intensified with Microsoft 365 talks for students and employees, facilitated by experts Phillip Ceasar III Dayap and Nolleen Esposo from SoftwareOne Philippines. The day concluded with “Partner’s Talk” sessions led by H3C Technologies Philippines Inc., ISource Asia Business Solutions, and other industry leaders.
Digital Inclusion Challenges
The festival’s second day confronted one of technology’s greatest obstacles: the digital divide. Speakers Kat Solmayor and Kit de Jesus illuminated the complexities of Digital Access and Inclusion, sparking crucial discussions about bridging gaps in technology access. Their presentations centered on ensuring equitable access to technology and empowering students and employees with inclusive tools for learning and development.
The conversation shifted dramatically when artificial intelligence entered the discussion.
Afternoon sessions explored AI for Education, featuring distinguished speakers including Prof. Gerald E. Danbada, Chair of DECE at De La Salle University Manila, and Dr. Arvin R. De La Cruz, Chief of OUS Instructional Materials Development. These experts presented groundbreaking strategies for integrating artificial intelligence in classroom environments, demonstrating how AI education technology could revolutionize learning experiences.
Turning Point
A pivotal moment arrived with the presentation of PUP’s Roadmap for AI, underscoring the university’s commitment to future-ready education. This comprehensive plan represented more than just technological advancement—it symbolized a fundamental shift toward preparing students for an AI-driven world. Industry partners, including Banbros Construction Inc. and GOCOM Systems and Solutions Corporation, enriched this vision by sharing their expertise through specialized partner talks, providing participants with real-world perspectives on AI applications.
The breakthrough continued into the final day with the Adobe Creative Cloud Lecture Series, facilitated by Rollan Bañez, Co-founder and Training Director of Creative Nation Academy Corp. This session demonstrated how creative technology could merge with technical innovation, showing students and employees the latest tools and applications in digital design, content creation, and creative collaboration. The fusion of creativity and technology represented a new paradigm for digital education.

During the Closing Ceremony, Assistant Director Severino L. Martinez and Christian G. Ordaniel of the ICTO presented milestone achievements and recognized outstanding participants of the PUP Hackathon Competition. These celebrations highlighted the tangible outcomes of three days of intensive learning, collaboration, and innovation. Director Sally C. Mua delivered closing remarks that commended the collaborative efforts of faculty, students, and partner organizations in making the event a resounding success.
The festival concluded with musical and cultural performances celebrating the spirit of PUPian excellence, creating a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. More significantly, the event established itself as a platform for the PUP community to champion sustainable digital transformation and foster equitable access to technology.
The PUP Technology Festival 2025 demonstrated the university’s continuous pursuit of innovation, inclusivity, and digital advancement—values that echo the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The festival particularly aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through lectures, hackathons, and exhibits, the event became a catalyst for nurturing the next generation of Filipino innovators dedicated to building a smarter and more inclusive future for all.
As we look toward the future, the success of TechFest 2025 signals a new era where Digital Bayanihan becomes more than a theme—it transforms into a living philosophy that will guide Filipino innovation for years to come.
