UBU Researchers Present at Thailand-Taiwan Chemistry Conference on Sustainability
Ubon Ratchathani University researchers participated in an international chemistry conference focused on sustainability innovation, delivering eight presentations at the four-day event held from September 30 to October 3, 2025, in Bangkok.
Key Details
The conference “2025 Empowering Connectivity in Chemistry: Chemistry as a Bridge to Sustainability” brought together over 170 researchers and experts from Thailand, Taiwan, and partner countries at the Avani Ratchada Hotel. Thailand Science Research and Innovation organized the event, with Dr. Arunee Panpermsak, Assistant Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presiding over the proceedings.
Professor Dr. Siriporn Jungsuttiwong, Dean of the Faculty of Science at UBU, led the university’s delegation. The Thailand-Taiwan chemistry conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange, research network strengthening, and innovation promotion toward sustainable development goals.
UBU Faculty of Science researchers served as invited speakers, delivering three scientific presentations covering battery innovation, analytical devices, and sustainable materials:
- Professor Dr. Siriporn Jungsuttiwong presented “From Molecular Mechanisms to Device Performance: Experimental–DFT Insights for Sustainable Battery Innovation”
- Associate Professor Dr. Unchalee Sampao discussed “Electrochemical Paper-Based Analytical Devices for the Determination of Nitrite, Nitrate, and Nitrosamine”
- Associate Professor Dr. Sayan Saengsuwan covered “Rapid UV-Photopolymerized Starch-Based Superabsorbent: One-Pot Synthesis Toward Efficient and Cost-Effective Dye Removal”
- Five additional poster presentations showcased research on cancer biomarker detection, tuberculosis treatments, and food safety testing
- Research topics included smartphone-assisted colorimetric analysis and photocatalytic degradation applications
Background & Context
The poster presentations demonstrated UBU’s diverse research portfolio across multiple chemistry applications. Associate Professor Dr. Saksri Supasorn presented smartphone-assisted colorimetric determination methods for high school chemistry education. Associate Professor Dr. Maliwan Amatatongchai showcased core-shell molecularly imprinted polymers for cancer biomarker detection at point-of-care testing sites.
Additional poster presentations included Associate Professor Dr. Pornpan Puengpo’s work on discovering new InhA inhibitors as antituberculosis agents through structure-based virtual screening validated by biological assays. Assistant Professor Dr. Nuchanaporn Pijarn presented TiO₂–SiO₂ polymer films for photocatalytic degradation applications, while Assistant Professor Dr. Ketsarin Sriboonrueng demonstrated instant formalin detection in food using paper-based vapor-sensing platforms.
What’s Next
According to university officials, this participation reaffirms UBU’s commitment to advancing international research collaboration between Thailand and Taiwan. The university continues fostering sustainable development through active engagement in chemistry and innovation while promoting excellence in science and technology contributions to the global scientific community.
